Introduction to the More Advanced Exercises

Read This Before Attempting These Exercises

Before starting these exercises, you should have completed all the basic exercises. You will not receive any credit for completing these Advanced exercises until you have had all the Basec exercises marked.

These advanced exercises more concerned with the integration of the interfacing concepts that you have worked on in the Basic Exercises into a more complex system.

As discussed in the Introduction document, There are three advanced exercises for this activity:

  • Advanced: PI Control – IR Sensor Distance: During this exercise you, will use the IR distance sensor as a feedback element to implement a PI controlled distance tracking system with your robot.
  • Advanced: PI Control – Encoder Position: during this exercise, you will implement a PI controller to track a position command, and use a finite state machine to control the system reference.
  • Advanced: PI Control – IR with Sequence: During this exercise, you will use all the elements of the Basic and previous Advanced exercises to implement a sequences control system for your robot.

Note

To gain credit for these Advanced exercises, you must have completed, and have had marked, all the Basic Exercises before we will mark the advances exercises.

The Timeline we present in the Activity Introduction does not include these advanced exercises, to you will put in extra effort, outside the laboratory sessions, to complete these exercises.

Each of these exercises will be assessed during the laboratory session, using the assessment structure outlined in the The Assessment document. When you have completed an assessed exercise, you should get your work marked one of the GTAs.

Warning

DO NOT leave all your exercises until the end of the 3rd laboratory session to get marked. This may result in you running out of time to get your work marked within the allotted time, and you will lose marks. Instead, you should get your work marked as you complete each assessed exercise.
